Canadian 3G Network Sunset FAQs

UPDATE: Rogers has extended their 3G network shutdown date to August 7th.

Effective August 7th, all major Canadian cell carriers are decommissioning their 3G networks nationwide. If you have an original BRNKL device that connects via 3G, you may experience limited or no connectivity after this date.

🔍 How do I know if my BRNKL device is affected?

You can identify your BRNKL device’s connectivity compatibility by checking its serial number. You can find your unit’s serial number in the BRNKL mobile application under the Settings tab. If you're unable to find your serial number, you can also follow our interactive tutorial here, or contact us for more assistance.

  • BRNKL units with serial numbers that begin with LL (e.g., LL123456) are 3G-only and will require an upgrade.

  • BRNKL units with serial numbers that begin in VU or AT (e.g., VU987654 or AT654321) are already 5G compatible and no action is required on your end at this time.

📆 What happens after August 7, 2025?

After this date:

  • 3G BRNKL units (LL series) will no longer connect via 3G in Canada.

  • These devices will fall back to 2G networks where available. However, 2G is an aging technology:

    • Performance may be slower and less reliable

    • Features such as remote access and photo capture may experience delays

  • International and U.S. 2G networks have mostly been phased out.

  • Canadian 2G networks are still active, but are expected to be phased out soon, with no official sunset date announced yet.

To avoid disruptions, we strongly recommend upgrading to a 5G-compatible BRNKL unit before the 2G shutdown occurs.
