Add shore power sensor (plug-in)

This page covers the device-specific wiring for a BRNKL Shore Power Plug-in Sensor. For general device setup and settings, see Add a device.

The Shore Power Plug-in Sensor detects whether AC shore power is connected or disconnected by plugging into a shore-powered outlet — no AC panel wiring required. Useful for alerting when shore power is lost unexpectedly while the boat is unattended.

Uses the dedicated shore power slot (slot 9) on the BRNKL connector.

Prerequisites

  • BRNKL Shore Power Plug-in Sensor

  • A shore-powered AC outlet within reach of the supplied cable (approx. 1 m)

Disconnect shore power before working on the BRNKL connector.

Select an outlet

Use a shore-powered AC outlet that is:

  • not connected to an inverter

  • not dedicated to another device

  • within reach of the supplied sensor cable (approx. 1 m)

Configure

In the BRNKL app, go to Settings > Devices > Shore Power.

This is a Shore Power input. Recommended settings:

  • Monitor — on

  • Alert — on

  • Alert OnLow (alerts when shore power disconnects)

Tap Save.

Test

  1. Wait 15 minutes for settings to sync.

  2. Plug the sensor into the shore-powered outlet. The dashboard should show Connected.

  3. Unplug shore power from the dock. The dashboard should switch to Disconnected and trigger an alert if armed.

  4. Reconnect shore power and confirm it returns to Connected.

Troubleshooting

  • Dashboard shows Disconnected with sensor plugged in — confirm the outlet is on shore power, not an inverter circuit. The sensor requires live AC to register as connected.

  • No reading on dashboard — check that the black wire is in slot 9 and the striped wire is at a common ground, and that Monitor is enabled in the app.
