Powering the BBP

The BRNKL Black Portable can be powered using multiple methods.

General Power Guidelines

  • Always verify your power source meets the input requirements before connecting.

  • Never connect more than one power source at the same time.

  • Ensure the correct internal barrel jack is connected before applying power.

  • Use the provided Velcro straps to secure internal power banks during operation.

  • Power sources should support ≥60 W output to handle peak demand.

  • The BBP typically draws ~10 W but consumption increases when:

    • Camera IR lights are active.

    • The internal BRNKL Black battery is charging.

Powering Options

1. DC Barrel Jack (Primary Input)

  • Accepts 10–30 V DC from the vessel's DC supply or an external DC power source.

  • Located on the side of the lid.

2. USB-C PD Power

  • Accepts USB-C PD sources rated for ≥60 W output.

  • Can be connected internally or via the passthrough bulkhead port on the lid.

  • Compatible with USB-C wall adapters and USB-C PD power banks (power bank not included).

Internal Barrel Jack Swap (Required for USB-C PD Use)
  • There is an internal barrel jack connection that must be swapped between the DC input and the USB-C PD cable.

  • To switch:

    1. Open the case (do not disconnect any other cables).

    2. Locate the internal barrel jack connection.

    3. Disconnect from the DC input and connect to the USB-C PD cable, or vice versa.

    4. Apply power and check that the components have powered up successfully.

Internal Power Bank Use
  • Connect the internal USB-C PD cable directly to the power bank.

  • Secure the power bank with the provided Velcro straps.

  • To charge the power bank without removing it:

    • Connect a USB-C cable from the bulkhead USB-C port to the power bank input port.

USB-C Bulkhead Quirks
  • Some USB-C cables require being rotated 180° for proper connection.

  • Test connection before finalizing installation.

Power Bank Restart Considerations
  • Most power banks will briefly interrupt output when charging starts or stops.

  • This will reboot the Peplink router (boot time up to 5 minutes).

  • The BRNKL Black will remain powered for ~15 minutes on its internal battery.
