Plan your network configuration, connections, and install location before mounting your BRNKL Blue.
1 | Plan your network configuration
Use the network configuration tool to determine how your BRNKL Blue will connect to the internet and your onboard network.
2 | Plan your connections
Identify the devices and inputs you intend to connect to your BRNKL Blue before installation.
NMEA 2000 (N2K)
BRNKL Blue connects to your onboard N2K network to monitor compatible devices such as chartplotters, engines, and sensors.
-
Determine whether your vessel has an existing N2K network.
-
If no N2K network exists, plan for a new network backbone or a direct device connection.
-
Identify the N2K network drop closest to your planned BRNKL install location.
Hardwired inputs
BRNKL Blue provides 7 hardwired inputs that measure 0–60 V DC. They can be configured to work with a variety of analog or digital devices.
-
Count the number of devices you plan to connect.
-
Identify whether each device is analog or digital.
-
Plan cable routing from each device to the BRNKL install location.
Power
-
Identify a suitable DC power source in the range of 9–60 V DC.
-
The power connection must be always-on and not controlled by a switch.
-
Plan for a 5 A fuse on the positive wire.
3 | Plan your install location
Choose your BRNKL Blue mounting location based on the following requirements.
-
Dry location — mount indoors, away from water ingress.
-
Power access — close proximity to your DC power source.
-
GPS antenna placement — allow for antenna cable routing to a location with a clear sky view, within 3 m (10 ft).
-
Network and device access — allow cable runs to your N2K network, local network (Ethernet), and hardwired input devices.
-
Port clearance — allow at least 10 cm (4") of clearance below the unit to access connection ports.
-
Stable mounting surface — vertical mount recommended. Do not mount with the connection panel facing up.
Next steps
Once planning is complete, follow these steps to install and set up the BRNKL Blue:
