Set up a geofence

A geofence is a virtual circular boundary around a defined location. When the BRNKL Blue's GPS position crosses the boundary, BRNKL can send an alert, trigger video recording, or activate other automations — useful for catching unexpected movement of the vessel.

Only one geofence is supported per BRNKL Blue.

Prerequisites

  • BRNKL Blue installed with the GNSS antenna connected and showing a valid GPS position

  • BRNKL Device Manager open and accessible

Set up a geofence

  1. In BRNKL Device Manager, go to Settings > Geofence and expand the geofence panel.

  2. Configure the alert behaviour using the activity toggles:

    • Monitor — displays the geofence on the dashboard.

    • Alert — sends a notification when the boundary is crossed, while the system is armed.

    • Critical Alert — sends a notification even when the system is disarmed. Only available when Alert is enabled.

  3. Enter a descriptive Geofence Name.

  4. Set Geofence Type. Circle is currently the only supported type.

  5. Set Alert On to choose what triggers the alert:

    • Exit — alert when the vessel leaves the boundary.

    • Enter — alert when the vessel enters the boundary.

    • Change — alert on either direction.

  6. Optionally configure Record on Alert (select a camera) and Triggered Recording Duration for video capture when the boundary is crossed.

  7. Choose a Colour for the geofence display on the dashboard map.

Position the geofence

The geofence's centre point and radius are set on the map, not by typing latitude and longitude.

  1. Click Set Geofence to open the map.

  2. Drag the centre marker to position the geofence over the desired location (typically the boat's home slip or mooring).

  3. Drag the edge of the circle to adjust the radius.

  4. Click outside the map to confirm and save the geofence. The latitude, longitude, and radius fields update automatically with the new values.

The geofence radius should be large enough to accommodate normal GPS drift while moored, typically 50–100 metres works well for most marinas. Too small a radius can produce false alerts on still days; too large can mask actual movement.

Remove a geofence

To remove the configured geofence, click Remove Geofence in the geofence panel.

Test the geofence

After saving, verify the geofence on the dashboard map. If the vessel's current position is inside the boundary, the geofence circle appears as configured. Crossing the boundary (either by moving the vessel or temporarily reducing the radius) should produce the configured alert.
